Located in the southern part of Baranja, „Kuća Biljkinog oca“ is an authentic gem that recently shone with the Silver Sunflower Award in rural tourism. The initiator of this story, Vedran Grizbaher, known as „Biljkin otac“, shares with us the intertwined fabric of tradition and modernity.

Despite growing up in the city, Vedran gained insight into the village's way of life through the study of ethnology, opening the doors to traditional living. This change in perspective, as he says, further enriched his idea of creating Kuća Biljkinog oca. It all started with an advertisement for the sale of a house, which, he recounts, he stumbled upon by chance while living in Zagreb. From the moment the house captured him at first sight, it sparked his curiosity about life in an authentic space. Upon returning to his native Osijek, with the support of his parents, he marked the beginning of a new chapter in his life dedicated to creating Kuća Biljkinog oca.

Inside the house, carefully chosen restored furniture dominates, with each piece telling its own story of life and times gone by. "Guests have the opportunity to experience what it's like to stay in such a space and enjoy the amenities available to them," shares the owner, aware that this house is not just accommodation but an experience. He particularly emphasizes the hunting-themed bookshelf that stands out in the living room, crafted from solid wood with numerous details. Next to it, his portrait, a gift from academic painter Tomislav Livaja, adds a floral touch to the space.

Kuća Biljkinog oca declared the best traditional house in Croatia in 2022, sets standards for preserving authenticity. "The balance between old and new is the key," Vedran emphasizes. Guests praise the comfort and warmth, feeling like they've stepped into the past without sacrificing modern pleasures. Maintaining a balance between antique charm and contemporary comfort is not easy, but Vedran successfully integrates neutral, unobtrusive elements. The room that used to be a stable is particularly fascinating, blending traditional materials with modern design, creating a space for socializing that simultaneously reflects the past and the present.

Ecological awareness is not just a phrase at Kuća Biljkinog oca; it's a way of life. From plants to compost, every step is carefully designed to provide guests with an experience of harmonious coexistence with nature. The owner's enthusiasm for ecology is also conveyed through workshops that educate guests about the importance of nature conservation.

Collaborating with small producers and the local community, Vedran promotes local culture and tradition, actively sharing information about events in the surroundings. Currently, he is further educating himself through a training program to become a manager of selective forms of tourism and a specialist in the development of regenerative tourism with an emphasis on heritage. During the Paprika Festival, he opens the doors of the house to guests, allowing them the opportunity to experience and participate in the Baranja experience.

Vedran strives to personally welcome each guest, providing them with a tour of the house and sharing stories about life in the past. Guests appreciate his accessibility and useful information during their stay.
